Discharge of water from Prakasham barrage increased

Vijayawada, Aug 16 (UNI) A huge 5.38 lakh cusecs of water was let out from Prakasham barrage across Krishna river into the sea this morning.

Accoring to Irrigation officials here due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of Karnataka and Maharashtra, surplus water flowed into the Srisailam dam from and there to Nagarjunasagar reservoir. The discharge at upstream Nagarjunasagar dam was 5.56 lakh cusecs in the morning.

The present discharge from the barrage was one lakh cusecs higher than the yesterday's discharge besides letting out 17,809 cusecs of water from the barrage into the Irrigation channel.

The water level at Prakasham barrage stood at 14.5 ft today, sources added.
