CPI, CPM playing dubious: MCPI

Chandigarh, Aug 16 (UNI) With a view to mobilising an alternative left wave against the Congress-led UPA government's ''pro-capitalist and anti-people policies'', the Marxist Communist Party of India-United (MCPI) has convened a four-day all-India party Congress here from September 17.

The MCPI delegates from 12 major states, inlcuding Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, would participate in the convention, MCPI Punjab Committee Secretary Kuldeep Singh told reporters at a news conference here today.

The MCPI felt that both, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), were playing dubious roles by supporting the Congress-led UPA governmment at the Centre and at the same time condemning it for its ''anti-people policies'', the MCPI leader said.

''Both CPI and CPM have been exposed of their dishonesty towards the people of this country as they betrayed those who have been fighting against captalism and feudalism,'' he said.

He said both these left parties at the Centre verbally opposed the ''anti-people'' policies of the Congress-led UPA government but continued its support to the government.

The CPI and CPM often criticise the Centre's policies but failed to give any alternative programme, he added.

Besides the national issues, he said, the MCPI would also build up a consensus within the party for the next Punjab Assembly elections due in six months time.

''We (MCPI) will analyse the party's position for the coming Assembly elections before announcing the candidates and the number of seats to be contested,'' he added.
