Bangalore, Aug 16 (UNI) All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) President C M Ibrahim today said the countdown for mid-term polls has started in the State.

Speaking to UNI here, Mr Ibrahim, trying to mobilise minorities, SC/STs and other backward communities in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of the AHINDA movement in Karnataka, said the collapse of the Government was imminent as differences existed within the JD(S) over the leadership of Mr H D Kumaraswamy.

He claimed that JD(S) Legislators, who were sidelined after the party formed the Government by joining hands with the BJP, were feeling let down and threatening to desert the party.

Mr Ibrahim, who would not join the Congress on September three when his party would merge with the national party, said he was busy mobilising secular forces in Uttar Pradesh, where Assembly elections were due in early 2007. AHINDA kind of conventions have been planned in Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of former Prime Minister V P Singh and Lok Dal leader Ajit Singh.

''My main concern is to mobilise secular forces across the country, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. Refusal to serve as (JD-S President) Deve Gowda's bonded labourers forced (former Deputy Chief Minister) Siddaramaiah and other JD(S) leaders to leave the party,'' he said.
