Bombay HC directs authorities to fill potholes by August 30

Mumbai, Aug 16 (UNI) Bombay High Court today directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority, Mumbai Port Trust and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation to fill all the potholes on the roads under their jurisdiction by August 30.

A division bench comprising Justices R M Lodha and S A Bobde, while scheduling the next hearing for August 31, warned the authorities that for any non-compliance with these directions, the officials will be held personally responsible.

The court also directed them to submit the compliance reports on the next date and if any work was pending, then the official concerned was to be present in court.

The directions were issued in response to a bunch of public interest litigations filed by Dr Sandip Rane, Mr Bhagwanji Rayani of the Janhit Manch and Mr Kewal Semlani alleging that while the authorities had not dealt with road problems, the frequency of accidents faced by public was appalling.
