Blast at Kenya scrap yard kills one-police

MOMBASA, Kenya, Aug 16 (Reuters) Unexploded ordnance detonated at a scrap yard in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa today, killing one worker and injuring another, police said.

''Our preliminary investigations show there was undetonated military ordnance which exploded accidentally today at the scrap yard, killing one person instantly and injuring another,'' a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.

He said more details would be released on Thursday of the official probe into the blast, which took place less than 1 km from Mombasa's Moi International Airport.
