Blast at ISCON complex in Imphal leaves two dead, 17 injured

Imphal, Aug 16 (UNI) At least two people were killed and seventeen injured, many of them seriously, when a powerful hand grenade was thrown at a congregation where more than 1000 people were offering prayers to mark Janmastami, the birth of Lord Krishna, here this evening.

Imphal Superintendent of Police Clay Khongsai said a powerful Chinese made hand grenade was hurled in fornt of Lord Krishna temple at ISCON complex at 7 pm when people were offering prayers.

The injured were taken to Regional Institute of Medical Science and other local hospitals where condition of ten including some women was critical.

No one was arrested in this connection. Police cordoned off the area to launch combing operation.

No organisation so far claimed the responsibility of the blast.
