AIPJD formally approves merger with Congress

Bangalore, Aug 16 (UNI) The State executive meeting of the All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) in Karnataka today formally approved the party's proposed merger with the Congress.

The meeting discussed various issues in this regard, including the positions that the Congress should consider for the party workers. However, the merger was unconditional, according to AIPJD Working President P Kodandaramaiah.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said the party would merge with the Congress at a convention to be held in the city on September three. Former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who had recently joined the Congress, would tour the State from tomorrow to galvanise support for the merger from party workers, he added.

He said party President C M Ibrahim, also heading a Muslim organisation, was expected to join the Congress in due course.

Several former Ministers and senior leaders, including A K Subbaiah, attended the meeting.
