10 killed as vehicle plunges into Ravi river

Chamba, Aug 16 (UNI) At least ten pilgrims were killed after their jeep plunged into the Ravi river in this district of Himachal Pradesh last night, police said today.

The accident occurred near Basukundi, 24 km from here, on the Chamba-Bharmaur road, killing 10 people on the spot.

The sources said a child was the lone survivor in the accident, the cause of which was still to be ascertained.

Senior district administration and police officials rushed to the site to supervise relief and rescue operations, the sources said, adding the bodies were also pulled out last night.

The bodies had been handed over to their relatives after a post-mortem.

The sources said the deceased were yet to be identified, but were members of two families from Hamirpur and Solan districts of the state.

A case had been registered and investigations were on, police added.
