Two militant killed in gun battle in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 15: Two suspected militants were killed in a gun battle with troops at Chandel district on the eve of Independence day.

The troops of Assam Rifles gunned down two militants in a heavy gun battle, going on for the past one week, with the militants, police said.

Earlier, three militants of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) were also shot dead by Assam Rifles troops.

Police said the gun fight ensued between the police and suspected ultras last night at Mayang Imphal. Later a hand grenade was recovered from the area.
