Toll due to floods mount to 13 in Karnataka
Bangalore, Aug 15 (UNI) Five people were killed today in flood related incidents in Karnataka taking the toll to 13 during the last one month.
Police said four persons, travelling in a cement laden lorry, were washed away in Dakshina Kannada district when it fell into a river near Hosmutt this afternoon. The incident occurred when the driver tried to pass a overflowing bridge despite warning.
Earlier, a 50-year-old street vendor was washed away in swollen Bhima river near Devagangapur village in Gulbarga district.
Meanwhile, flood situation in the areas falling under river Bhima eased further following reduction in the discharge from upstream dams in Maharashtra, while the flood situation remained grim in other parts of North Karnataka with river Krishna still in spate.
