President, PM greet people on Janmashtami

New Delhi, Aug 15: President APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today greeted the people on the occasion of Janamashtami.

''On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all my people in India and abroad,'' the President said in his message.

Work without thought of reward is relevant in the mission of transforming India into a developed country, Dr Kalam said adding Janmashtami reminds the people of the message of 'nishkama karma' (selfless service) preached by Lord Krishna.

In his message, Dr Singh said that Lord Krishna's eternal message of 'Karmayoga' continues to guide humanity on the path of salvation.

His divine personality represents the noble ideal of wisdom and excellence in all spheres of life, he added.

''May Janamashtami this year usher in happiness, joy and peace for all and further strengthen the values of compassion, service and justice in society,'' the Prime Minister said.
