Police foil self immolation bid in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Aug 15 (UNI) Police today foiled a self immolation bid by a man near the state level parade venue where the main function of the 60th Independence Day on the crowded Mahamta Gandhi Marg was to be held.

Dytikrushna Sahu, a resident of Dudurkot in Dhenkanal district, suddenly poured kerosene on his body, just before the arrival of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to unfurl the tri-colour at the venue.

But before he could set himself on fire, police personnel present at the spot overpowered him and foiled his attempt. He was then taken to the Capital Police station for interrogation.

During investigation, it was revealed that the man was frustrated as he could not get his dues from the Income Tax Department despite several attempts in the past. He then decided to take the extreme step of immolate himself to draw the attention of the higher authority.
