PM Koirala appreciates India's support for democracy in Nepal

Kathmandu, Aug 15: Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has lauded India's support for democratisation and development in the Hihalayan Kingdom.

In a message of felicitations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day today, Mr Koirala expressed confidence that the spirit of goodwill of India will continue in the future.

''The people of Nepal deeply cherish the firm support extended by the Government and the people of India in their peaceful democratic movement,'' he said.

''We hope that the spirit of cooperation and goodwill would continue as Nepal moves ahead with the crucial agenda of establishing full-fledged democracy, permanent peace and stability in the country by ending the decade-old conflict,'' he added.

The Prime Minister said India's spectacular economic growth and technological progress achieved in recent years, under free and liberal environment, was inspiring the Himalayan kingdom.

He expressed the belief that the advancement of Indian economy would have a positive impact for the overall economic development of the countries in South Asia, thus enhancing the quality of lives of the people in the region.

The people and Government of Nepal greatly valued the age-old social, economic and cultural ties subsisting between the two countries, which are nurtured by the pragmatism and understanding of each other's aspirations and national interests, the Prime Minister said.

He said the historical political change brought about by the recent People's Movement in Nepal paved the way for strengthening the relations at various levels and would take them to a new height.

The Prime Minister has also wished for the continued progress, prosperity and happiness of the people and Government of India at this important day of independence and expressed his confidence that the friendly and cordial relations between the two countries would further widen and deepen in the years to come.

Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, KP Sharma Oli has sent a congratulatory message to Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed.

In the message, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed that the people and Government of the mountainous nation highly value the historic, social, economic and cultural relations existing between the two nations.
