Knowledge centres to open all over the state- Chamling

Gangtok, Aug 15 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today announced to connect all villages with IT facilites and open knowledge centres in all 31 assembly constituencies to make the state self reliant and prosperous.

After unfurling the national flag at a function organised to celebrate the 60th Independence day here, Mr Chamling said the knowledge centres would cater scientific knowledge and information to the people.

He also announced to launch mobile health service centres to provide health care facilities to rural poor and shelter to every Sikkimese under the rural housing scheme.

The other policy decisions announced by the Chief Minister included opening up of a university and a dental college to encourage higher education, a campaign for capacity building of youths and steps to eradicate child labour.

Mr Chamling also announced to encourage commercial cultivation of cash crops and herbs, promote floriculture and horticulture and to make the state a wholly green and healthy state.

He said in last 12 years, his government worked to make the country a prosperous and ideal state and achieved excellence in various fields including tourism, education, panchayat raj, environment, poverty removal, social justice and received national recognition for its performance.

The Chief Minister said the work done by his government had changed the life of the people and '' is now trying to give continuity'' to the task of turning the state into an ideal state in the country.

He said his government planned to make Sikkim a fully literate, free from poverty, crime and drugs by 2015. His government also aimed to making revenue generation of Rs 1500 crore and to make it a revenue surplus state by 2015, Mr chamling added. The government was working with a goal to transfer the state into a happy prosperous and self reliant state in coming ten years and called upon the people to take a pledge to help realise the dream.
