Kalam hosts reception on I-day

New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today hosted an "At Home" reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan on the occasion of Independence Day.

Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, several cabinet ministers, civil and military officials and diplomats attended the reception on the sprawling Mughal Gardens this evening.

Represenatives of some 100 NGOs working in different fields were special invitees of the President, who interacted with them separately. Dr Kalam asked them to work for the upliftment of the society and also improve the economic status of women.

The President freely mingled with the invitees and also posed for photographs with them.
