Industry development to be given priority: Zoramthanga

Aizawl, Aug 15 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga today announced his government would give priority to the industrial development centres in the state.

Unfurling the tricolour and taking salute at a state level parade on the 60th Independence Day, at the Assam Rifles ground here, Mr Zoramthanga said with the aim to boost industrial economy in the state, Mizoram has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NITOL group of industries of Bangladesh for supplying of bamboo poles and chips while negotating with Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd (HPCL) in South Asom to supply raw metarials.

''In order to achieve the target we have given maximum thrust to bamboo processing and faster utilisation of the resources of Mizoram in view of impending gregarious bamboo flowering,'' Mr Zoramthanga added.

Meanwhile, the state Agriculture department has initiated famine combat schemes by intensifying and diversifying bamboo connectivity for market linkage, rodent control as well as post harvest technology, he added.

''Since Mizoram has remained one of the most peaceful states of the country we are now emphasising on human resource management besides creation of a vibrant economy and only three months back we signed an MoU with Cambridge University for imparting training to our teachers,'' he said.

The state government has also formed a state level Quality Assurance Coordination Committee to improve the quality of higher studies in the state, the chief minister stated.
