India's Independence Day celebrated in Lanka

Colombo, Aug 15: India's 60th Independence Day was celebrated here today with Indian High Commissioner Nirupama Rao hoisting the tricolour.

The gatherning consisted of distinguished Indian citizens, including the Shillong Chamber Choir group, which is scheduled render a musical performance at the Lionel Wendt Theatre here this evening.

Earlier the Indian Cricket team, at present here for the triagular series, was supposed to be present at the function, but the plan was dropped due to the prevailing situation and security concerns.
