Indian Independence Day celebrated in Afghanistan

Kabul, Aug 15: Indian ambassador to Afghanistan Rakesh Sood today hoisted the tri-colour and read out excerpts from the speech of President A P J Abdul Kalam to mark the 60th Independence day.

The occasion witnessed a significant number of the Indian community gathering early in the morning for the flag hoisting ceremony.

The ceremony was held simultaneously in the four Indian consulates in Mazar e Sharief, Jalalabad, Herat and Kandahar.

A reception for senior members of the Afghan government, the diplomatic community and others will be held at the Ambassador's residence here later in the evening.
