Food poisoning affects 46 kids
Chhatarpur, MP, Aug 15 (UNI) Forty-six children were hospitalised after they consumed food from packets distributed during the 60th Independence Day celebrations at a primary school in this district's Pratappura village.
In a knee-jerk reaction, District Education Officer S P Singh Bisen suspended Principal Deshraj Nagar. The packets were supplied by a sweets seller at Londi tehsil headquarters and he is being questioned by the police.
Official sources said the packets, containing 'puri', a potato-based preparation and 'barfi' (sweet), were distributed soon after the tricolour was unfurled at the school, five km from Londi.
The kids were admitted to a primary health centre at Londi.
Collector Ajatashatru, Health Officer G P Khandelwal and Mr Bisen have rushed to the spot. ''Glucose has been administered to five children who suffered diarrhoea. All the 46 children are out of danger,'' Mr Ajatashatri said.
