De-jure celebrations in Pondy tomorrow

Pondicherry, Aug 15 (UNI) The Union Territory of Pondicherry will celebrate its 44th Independence day here tomorrow.

It was on August 16, 1962, that the 'De-jure'(legal merger of the Union Territory with the Indian Union) was effected after the French Parliament ratified the treaty of cession.

The Union Territory will observe a public holiday tomorrow and the freedom fighters, who fought for the liberation of Pondicherry will be honoured.
