Coast Guard rescue four fishermen off Mangalore coast
Mangalore, Aug 15 (UNI) Coast Guard today rescued four fishermen who were battling for their lives for nearly 31 hours, 20 nautical miles off Mangalore Port, after their fishing boat capsized in the rough Arabian sea.
Coast Guard Deputy Commandant Nitin Rathod told UNI tonight that the four fishermen had left Malpe fishing harbour in neighbouring Udupi district on their gilnet boat three days ago. Their boat capsised in the violent sea and later sank. The fishermen somehow kept themselves afloat till a merchant vessel ''Sunitha'' spotted them and alerted the Coast Guard over the radio.
Coast Guard personnel rushed to the spot on patrol vessel 'Kasturba Gandhi' and brought them to Mangalore port where they were treated by the doctors. They were all out of danger, Commandant Rathod said.
