CM appeals for changes in 5-year plan

Agartala, Aug 15: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today appealed for the changes in the five year planning system to ensure better growth of the nation.

After unfurling the National Flag on the 60th Independence day at the Asom Rifles Ground, Mr Sarkar said the Planning Commission needs to amend the five year plan in order to eradicate hunger and poverty from society.

''The country is developing in every sense but the fruit of development is being enjoyed by few sections of the society,'' he said, adding there should be no difference between the rich and the poor.

He further stressed on the proper utilisation of the natural wealth.

''Every region of the country should be given equal importance and the present practice of the Centre should be changed,'' Mr Sarkar avered.

He also urged the Centre to create more job opportunities for the youths, especially the underprivileged ones and create more infrastructure in the health and education sector.

Concluding the speech Mr Sarkar awarded galantary medals to eighteen officers and jawans of Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) for their action against the extremist groups in the state.
