Sandalwood worth Rs 7 lakh seized

Kohima, Aug 14: Nagaland police yesterday seized a truck load of red sandalwood and arrested two persons in this connection.

Official sources said police personnel in Dimapur, in a regular frisking at the Khatkhati Check Gate, recovered the truck load of red sandalwood concealed under gunny bags of husk and dry fish, was coming from Andhra Pradesh.

The consignment was heading for Myanmar and was on its way to Moreh, the International Trade Centre in Manipur along the Indo-Myanmar International Border.

Sources said both the occupants were arrested and the truck, along with the Sandalwood, was seized. The international market value of the seized item is said to be more than Rs7 lakhs.

Police investigation was on to apprehend the entire smuggling gang.
