Flood situation continues to be alarming
Vijayawada, Aug 14 (UNI) Due to heavy discharge of rain water from Srisailam to Nagarjunasagar reservoir, the flood situation along river Krishna continued to be alarming for the tenth day today.
Talking to UNI here, an official in the Irrigation Department said about 4.13 lakh cuses of surplus water was sent from Nagarjunasagar to Prakasam barrage till 0900 hrs.
As much as 4.96 lakh cusecs of water was discharged into sea, the official said adding 16,441 cusecs of water was let into irrigation canals.
The Full Reservoir Level(FRL) of the barrage stood at 13.8 ft and all the 70 crest gates at the barrage were lifted to release water the official added.
The district administration opened seven relief camps across the city in which 4,700 people were put up.
The residents of Tarakarama Nagar, Padmavathi ghat and parts of Ramalingeswara Nagar, who were badly hit, had been advised not to return home, as flood waters had not receded.
Meanwhile, following heavy rains in the upper reaches of river Krishna, the inflows at Srisailam project was increasing and the same quantum of water was being let into nagarjunasagar project, official sources said.
The inflows into the Nagarjunasagar reservoir, would continue for the next two days.
Following the water level reaching to its total capacity at Srisailam, power was being generated through generators, the sources added.
