AP govt to supply ISI pumpsets to farmers

Hyderabad, Aug 14: The Andhra Pradesh Government would supply 24 lakh ISI marked pumpsets to the farmers who were beneficiaries of 'free power' scheme launched by the ruling Congress government from 2004.

According to an official release here, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who reviewed the power situation with the officials concerned, said the government would supply 24 lakh quality pumpsets to the farmers with an allocation of Rs 15,000 crore, at 80 per cent subsidy. The government would implement the scheme in a phased manner and achieve the target by 2009.

Stating that the government was committed for the welfare of farmers, Dr Reddy said that the quality pumpsets would save 30 per cent powerfrom unnecessary consumption and reduce economic burden on farmers, the release said.
