Nagpur, Aug 13: The Irrigation department has released water from a dam on the Bagh river in Gondia district of Vidarbha in Maharashtra.

The Bagh river is a tributary of Wainganga river.

The department has asked people living on the banks of rivers Bagh and Wainganga to be ''cautious'' because the release of water from the dam has caused the water-level in the Bagh river to rise.

S L Kholapurkar, Superindent Engineer, Command area development, Nagpur, said the water in the dam was being depleted as a precautionary measure. There is nothing to worry about for those living along the banks of the two rivers, but the department wanted the people to be cautious.

About 3,500 cusecs of water were released from the four gates of the dam, which were opened upto one foot, he said, adding that the release of water would continue till tomorrow morning.
