Spare Ganguly the humiliation, tell him where he stands: Srinath
New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) Former pace spearhead Javagal Srinath rubbished media reports quoting him as saying that politics played its part in Sourav Ganguly's return to the list of probables for the Champions Trophy.
A former colleague of Ganguly, Srinath also reiterated that the former skipper has served the nation with distinction and he deserves a straightforward answer from the board vis-a-vis his future in the squad.
Talking to UNI, Srinath rubbished media reports which quoted him as saying that politics played a part in Ganguly's return ahead of the Champions Trophy.
''I never said politics played any part in his return. My point is it's essentially an issue between Ganguly and Chappell and the Board has nothing to do with it. It's unfortunate that it was reported that way,'' he rued.
Talking about Ganguly, Srinath insisted the southpaw had done enough to deserve an honest answer regarding his future.
''I stick to my stance that the Board should stop playing the cat-and-mouse game with Ganguly. Come on, he has led the team with distinction, is a senior member of the side who has scored more than 10,000 runs in the one dayers. You have to value his contribution.
''After doing so much, I think he deserves to be said where he stands,'' he added.
