Mumbai, Aug 13: Mineral and Metal Trading Corporation (MMTC) Ltd. has received eight bids ranging between US Dollar 525-702 per tn in its tender to import 15,000 tonnes(tn) desi chana, marketmen said today.

The bids have come from Hakan International, Ozi Pulses, LNJ International, RV International and MMTC's wholly-owned subsidiary MTPL. MTPL has submitted four bids for supplying different quantities at different ports. It is the only company that has offered to supply the entire quantity of 15,000 tn, officials said.

The lowest bid has come from RV International for supplying 3,000 tn chana at 525 a tn, while Hakan International has submitted the highest bid at USD 702 a tn for 3,000 tn.

MTPL has submitted two bids to supply 15,000 tn chana at USD552.69 a tn and US Dollar 558.71 a tn for different ports and months of delivery.

In its tender floated on Aug 2, MMTC had sought chana for delivery at Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai or Visakhapatnam ports during Oct-Dec.

This is the second tender floated by the MMTC since last month to import pulses.

In the first tender to import 110,500 tn pulses, the agency had received four bids. All the four bids, however, were rejected on the grounds that the prices quoted by the bidders were Rs 8,000-10,000 per tonne higher compared to domestic prices.

The tender floated by Projects and Equipment Corp. was also cancelled for the same reason.

The government had asked MMTC, Projects and Equipment Corp., and National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation to import pulses at zero duty to ease supplies in the domestic market and curb soaring prices, dealers added.
