Barnala's son remanded in one-day police custody
Chandigarh, Aug 13: A local court today remanded Punjab MLA Gaganajit Singh Barnala, son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, in one-day police custody on charges of raping a 45-year-old maid.
Barnala's supporters shouted slogans outside the court of Duty Magistrate Atul Marya and demanded immediate withdrawal of the false case registered against him.
Chandigarh Police last night arrested Gaganajit Singh Barnala for the alleged rape of his domestic help.
On the rape charges, Barnala said, ''the case is politically motivated and the truth will come out soon.'' Mrs Harpreet Kaur, wife of the accused, while supporting her husband said, ''My husband is innocent and he has been framed.'' The driver of the accused admitted the victim to the Government Hospital yesterday.
In her complaint to the police, she alleged that Gaganajit Singh yesterday pulled her in his room and then raped her.
