YMCA Triennial Conference to be held in Delhi
New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The next triennial conference of the Indian YMCAs will be held here in September next year.
The decision to this effect was taken by the National Board meeting of the National Council of YMCAs in India here today. The National Council is the umbrella organisation of about 550 affiliated YMCAs and another 125 ones in various stages of affiliation.
The Board, the highest policy making body of the YMCA, has also decided to set up a Centre of Excellence to train youth as professionals and volunteers through an innovative leadership training process.The process for starting a physical education college at Muzhukode in Tamil Nadu would be speeded up.
The Board meeting was inaugurated by Dr Samuel D Stephens, Deputy President, World Alliance of YMCAs. Dr Stephens, who hails from Salem in Tamil Nadu, was also felicitated on his election to this post.
Dr J Alexander, President, National Council of YMCAs of India, Mr Stephen DaCosta, President, New Delhi YMCA, Dr Lilly George, President, New Delhi YWCA, Rev Enos Das Pradhan, General Secretary, Church of North India, Mr T Thomas, National General Secretary of YMCAs of India also spoke.
The theme of the Board meeting was "To build a youth movement spiritually strong and socially relevant".
