WB to study ways to develop IT infrastructure

Kolkata, Aug 12: The West Bengal government would prepare a feasibility study to develop infrastructure in Salt Lake Sector V, which houses many IT companies.

The study would find out the fund required for the project and look into issues relating to security for the IT sector in the state, S A Ahmed, special secretary to Chief Minister, told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on 'issues on security for IT sector in West Bengal' here today.

The Urban Development department would carry out the feasibility study, Mr Ahmed, Chairman of Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority, formed to administer the area housing the IT companies, said.

The IT companies would also be asked to participate in infrastructure development, he said.

Speaking on the occasion state IT secretary Siddharth called for checking of credentials of the recruits in the sector. Additional Commissioner of police Shivaji Ghosh said plans were at an advanced stage to set up a police station with a contingent of 100 policemen at Sector V. The Rajarhat township would also have three police stations for security of the IT professionals.

He called for the need for interactive community policing to enable two-way security planning for the IT sector.

Earlier, IT company Acclaris Business Solutions Pvt Ltd's managing director Kalyan Kar called for increase in police patrolling and better road infrastructure for the growth of IT companies in the Salt Lake Sector V IT complex.
