Tiger rebels attack eastern Sri Lankan harbour-Navy
COLOMBO, Aug 12 (Reuters) Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers fired artillery at a Navy base in the island's strategic eastern Trincomalee harbour before dawn today, the military said, as the worst fighting since a 2002 truce deepened.
''Trincomalee harbour is under artillery attack,'' said Navy spokesman Commander D K P Dassanayake. There were no immediate details.
Fierce shelling continued in the island's far north, where a new battlefront opened up late yesterday, officials said.
