3 militants gunned down, 2 injured in Manipur
Imphal, Aug 12: Three cadres of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) were killed and two others injured in an encounter at Semlon in Manipur, Chandel district police said here today.
Official sources said here that the Assam Rifles and army have launched an operation to flush out the militants in Chandel district.
Sources said two bodies have been recovered, along with arms and ammunition, and incriminating documents. Two AK Rifles were also seized.
A UNLF spokesman said three of its cadres have died.
AR sources said the troops were on the look out for UNLF militants after a jawan was killed in a bomb blast. So far four UNLF militants had been arrested in different incidents.
The People's United Liberation Front (PULF) has claimed responsibility of killing one person on August 11.
