Srinagar, Aug 12: Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) chief Shabir Ahmad Shah was today arrested in north Kashmir, official sources said.

They said Mr Shah was going to Bandipora when police stopped his vehicle at Mirgund, about 16 km from here and took him into custody alongwith three others.

A spokesman of the DFP said Mr Shah was to participate in the fourth day Fateha ceremony of final year Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, who was killed by security forces at Dalgate on August 9.

He said the visit of Shah was to express sympathy with the bereaved family.

Sheikh was allegedly killed by the security forces at Dalgate when he was waiting for a bus. However, CRPF claimed that he was about to lob a grenade when a CRPF jawan killed him.

The Killing of Sheikh sparked massive demonstrations in all educational institutions, including Amar Singh College where he was studying in BA second year.
