Security beefed in Manipur before Independence day

Imphal, Aug 12 (UNI) The Manipur government has beefed up security in the entire state to avert any untowrd incident on the Independence day.

Officials sources said here today that insurgency related activities have increased in the the state. Police, along with the military, have launched operations against militants across the state.

Police have been checking buses at various entry points of the state. Even at night the security personnel have been posted to stop any untoward incident.

Officials said that people would not be allowed to carry mobile phones and cameras while participating in the Independence Day ceremony.

The district administration and senior government officials had several rounds of talks to ensure smooth celebration of the Independence day.

Officials said the militants groups of the North-Eastern region have already called a general strike in the entire region on August 15 and there are possibilities of insurgency activities to thwart the celebration.

The main function would be held under tight security inside the Ist Manipur Rifles complex, Imphal.
