North India's first warehouse started

Bhopal, Aug 12 (UNI) The first railside warehouse of northern India and of the Western Railway Division has started operating today.

Inaugurating the Rs 7 crore warehouse, Western Railway Division Manager Ashok Kumar Agrawal said the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) built the warehouse having seven racks and with a capacity of 16,700 metric tonnes.

A similar warehouse is underconstruction at Pavarkheda near Itarsi under the Western Railway Division. Besides, warehouses would be constructed in Bina and Guna.

He said the warehouses would help businessmen from getting rid of transportation and enable them to directly load their material to racks and unload it from trains.

CWC Regional Manager J V Bandre said the corporation would construct 22 warehouses across the country as per an agreement.

The State Trading Corporation booked the first loading -- of 'chana (gram)' for Kolkata -- of the warehouse.
