Idols seized; four held

Visakhapatnam, Aug 12 (UNI) The city task force arrested four people here last night, when they were trying to dispose off 31 ancient panchaloha idols, estimated at Rs five lakh.

Police said the seizure was made following a raid.

The arrested, G Appala Raju, T Adnarayana, S Ramesh and B Narayana Rao were, from Chodavaram in the Visakhapatnam district.

Mr Rangayya of Kurnool, who procured the idols for the accused, was still at large.

The idols were believed to be of 12th, 13th and 16th centuries.

Most of them were of Lord Ganesh. One idol of Bala Ganapathi was considered to be among the rarest.

An investigation was underway.
