Cine singer's kin convicted

Gwalior, Aug 12 (UNI) The district court has sentenced one year's imprisonment to cine singer Shefali Jariwalla's father-in-law Gulzar Singh in a cheque bounce case and ordered to a pay compensation of Rs 8 lakh.

Judge Madhusudan Mishra yesterday issued the order on a petition by Rajpal Khurana a former partner of Gulzar Singh in liquor business.

The petitioner said he had given a draft of Rs 9 lakh to Gulzar Singh in 1998 and Rs 6 lakh was returned to him. During settlement of accounts in 2001, Rs 5.94 lakh was due to be paid to Rajpal but the cheque for this amount given by Gulzar Singh bounced on presentation, leading to the litigation.
