Annan hails Security Council resolution on ending hostilities
United Nations, Aug 12 (UNI) Welcoming last night's Security Council resolution, which seeks an immediate cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, Secretary-General Kofi Annan said he believes it can serve as a base to reach ''a sustainable and lasting ceasefire agreement''.
In his address to the Council shortly before a vote on the resolution, Mr. Annan said he would work with the Lebanese and Israeli governments over the weekend to determine ''the exact date and time at which the cessation of hostilities will come into effect''.
