8 engineers suspended for pond breach

Bhopal, Aug 12 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended 8 engineers of the Irrigation department following the breach of a newly constructed pond at village Roodaheda near Mahidpur in Ujjain district, damaging 50 houses.

The suspended include the Executive Engineer S C Vyas recently posted in Narmada Valley Development Authority, Sub-Divisional Officer K P Sharma, who is already under suspension in another case, Sub-Divisional Officer P K Sharma, Quality Inspector Shashank Athawale and Sub-Engineers S P Jain, S L Rathore, S K Gupta and U K Patil.

An official spokesman said during suspension the engineers will be posted at the state capital.

Following heavy rains on Thursday, the pond constructed at a cost of Rs 418 lakh breached damaging 10 houses fully and 40 partially in Nag Guradia and Lalgarh villages. There was no loss of life. The loss to property is being assessed and the affected people have been given shelter in camps, the spokesman added.

Bhind District Collector R A Khandelwal has been removed for providing wrong information to the government about the construction of water bodies under the Jalabhishek Abhiyan.
