UP govt hands over Narora atomic plant security to Army
Lucknow, Aug 11(UNI) Uttar Pradesh government tonight called on the Army as a standby in the security measures for the sensitive Narora atomic power unit in Bulandsahar district of western parts of the state.
State home secretary R M Srivastava told UNI here tonight that 100 army personnel have been deployed in Narora this evening while another 100 troops would join them tomorrow.
He said due to threat perception, the Army would also deply anti-aircraft missiles around the power unit to thwart any terrorist attack.
The home secretary said additional police force have been deployed at the Hindustan Aeronatics Limited((HAL) units at Lucknow, and Kanpur.
Meanwhile, a report from Bullandsahar said that security has been beefed up at the Narora atomic power plant as barriers have been put on in all the entry and exit points of the plant.
Earlier, state chief secretary N C Bajpai had said that the state government would not deploy army at Narora as the state police was cokmpetent to check any terrorist attack.
