Three-day long strike in UCIL ends

Jamshedpur, Aug 11 (UNI) The three-day long strike of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) at Jadugoda was called off following an agreement between the management and the representatives of the four affiliated Unions after mid-night last night.

More than four thousand miners of the four mines under the UCIL went for an indefinite strike since Tuesday night demanding job to the son of the driver Balram Singh, who worked at Turamdih mines and reportedly died on August seven while he was on duty.

The situation became tense as thousands of miners blocked the main gate of UCIL to press for their demand The body of the deceased was also not cremated.

The East Singhbhum district administration had to call the Rapid Action Force (RPF) to control the situation as the talks between the unions and the management failed to yield results.

However, after prolong deleberations the management had agreed to provide job to the son of the deceased and he would be recruited as trainee employee for three years, the sources said.

For the management, executive director A C Kundu, DGM Kandra Mahali and other senior officials took part in the talks while the top officials of the distirct administration were also present in the meeting.

UCIL had lost 4,900 tonnes of ore production worth crores of rupees in the three-day strike, the sources said.
