Tense Mumbai takes no chances; beefs up security

Mumbai, Aug 11 (UNI) Mumbai, still reeling under the fear left by serial blasts in suburban trains on Western line exactly a month ago, is not taking any chances in the wake of foiled terrorist bid in London and an American warning of possible terror attacks in the country, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today said.

Mr Patil, who also holds Home department, told reporters this evening that in view of ensuing Independence day celebrations and Ganesh festival, the police is taking adequate care to avoid any untoward incident. ''We are ready to face any eventuality,'' he said.

Besides intensifying security at several prominent places, State Reserve Police (SRP) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed at sensitive places, he added.

Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy and Government Railway Police (GRP) Commissioner Suresh Khopre were also present.

''Security has been beefed up at all religious places, government buildings, commercial establishments including multiplexes and malls,'' Mr Roy said.

Security also has been intensified at the Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport alongwith the domestic terminal.

Meanwhile, there was a bomb hoax call at the airport. However, it did not disturb the arrival and departure of the flights.
