SP and SDPO escapes unhurt, five killed in militant attack

Guwahati, Aug 11 (UNI) Tinsukia Superintendent of Police and a Sub-Divisional Police Officer escaped unhurt even as five jawans were killed and one was injured when the ULFA militants attacked the SP's convoy near Tengeri Tiniali this evening.

Official sources here said the bomb missed the SP's car and hit the Margherita SDPO's vehicle.

The SP was in a vehicle towards the rear of the convoy and escaped unhurt.

While three were killed on the spot, the rest succumbed to their injuries in Digboi General hospital.

Eveb after the attack, the militants, who were hiding nearby, however, went on spraying bullets indiscriminately forcing the jawans to retaliate and the ensuing encounter continued for an hour.
