Relief work on E Godavari: Collector

Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 11 (UNI) East Godavari Collector M Subramanyam today said about Rs 199 crore of relief work was being undertaken in the district.

Addressing presspersons here this evening, Mr Subramanyam said 50,000 litre of milk, 15 lakh food and 13.5 lakh water sachets were distributed in the affected region.

Several villages were still under water due to breaches in several places. About seven lakh tonne of vegetables were distributed and 97 community kitchens arranged. Sanitation work was undertaken in areas where water receded.

As many as 39 medical teams with 412 paramedical staff were holding health camps.Mr Subramanyam said so far 16 people died due to floods and compensation of Rs 50,000 paid in each case.

Power supply was being gradually restored. As per preliminary assessment, 68,105 hactare of crops were damaged.

Mr Subramanyam said in Amalapuram Division, people living in low-lying areas were moved to the safer places.

Meanwhile, East Godavari In-Charge Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, who toured the affected areas in the district, said all possible steps were being taken to rehabilitate the affected people.

She promised pucca houses to those who lost their huts and 20 kg of rice, five litre of kerosene besides food and milk to the affected people.
