PM announces Rs 350 cr flood-package for Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Aug 11 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today announced an immediate sanction of Rs 350 crore to Gujarat, which is grappling with nature's fury for the past week.

A Central team will be visiting Surat and other affected areas soon, Dr Singh told Chief Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting at the Vadodara airport, after he undertook an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas.

Earlier, Chief Minister Narendra Modi demanded an immediate interim relief of Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre and placing the preliminary damage assessment at more than Rs 21,875 crore.
