Opposition urges Govt to tighten security on Independence Day

Pondicherry, Aug 11 (UNI) The leader of the Opposition A M H Nazeem today urged the administration to tighten the security during the Independence Day Celebrations in the Union Territory in the wake of the threat to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Making a special mention during zero hour in the territorial assembly, he said that since the Tamil Nadu Government, after getting the threat, had taken all precautionary measures, there are possibilities for the miscreants turning towards Pondicherry.

Mr Nazeem said the Pondicherry administration should strengthen the security on border areas and should get the details of strangers visiting Pondicherry and checking into hotels rooms or hiring houses.

However, no reply was given to the special mention by the Government.
