NGOs demand closure of cola unit in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Aug 11 (UNI) A group of non-government organisations under the banner of Jansangarsh Samiti today demanded the closure of a cola production unit at Kaladera here.

While welcoming the ban on sale of soft drink in educational institutions in Jaipur, coordinator of the Samiti Sawai Singh demanded a similar ban on the sale and production of the drink across the state.

He said activists of the Samiti would organise a Satyagraha at the cola plant located at Kaladera on August 22.

Ramachandra Prasad, retired deputy director of Agriculture department said,''With the unbridled exploitation of ground water by the cola plant in the village, the level has depleted enormously.'' The ground water level was at 30 feet before the cola plant came up and it has now plumetted to 100 feet, he added.
