NCP will prefer to go alone in Uttaranchal: Tripathi
Dehra Dun, Aug 11 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party will prefer go alone in the forthcoming assembly polls in Uttaranchal, party national general secretary D P Tripathy said here today.
Completely ruling out any alliance with NDA parties, Mr Tripathy said the NCP will enter into a poll pact with like minded parties but only if the ''situation demands it''.
''NCP is capable enough to fight elections on its own,'' Mr Tripathy told reporters, on the sidelines of his visit to Uttaranchal to review the preparations for party's national convention to be held from September 16-17.
However, he said alliance with like minded paries could be considered if the political situation demands. ''But not with any NDA alliance parties by any means,'' he said.
He said Uttaranchal has enough potential for tourism to be developed as ''Switzerland of India'', which will be on the NCP's main agenda for polls.
When asked about the reaction of party workers on Supriya Sule, daughter of party supremo Sharad Pawar joining the NCP, Mr Tripathy said Supriya has joined the party as a grass root level party worker.
Mr T P Pitambaran, party general secretary said the national convention will discuss, among other things, the strategy for the assembly polls in the state.
