Militants to boycott Independence celebration in NE

Imphal, Aug 11 (UNI) Five militant organisations have called a general strike in the North East on the Independence day.

The Kamatapur Liberation Organisation, Manipur Peoples' Liberation Front, National Liberation Front of Tripura, Tripura Peoples Democratic Front and United Liberation Front of Asom have urged people to boycott the Independence Day celebrations.

The five organizations issued a joint statement saying the region was being treated like a 'colony' where 'divide and rule' was encouraged.

The organizations further said they would continue the struggle for independence.

It alleged that the Centre had adopted military tactics while dialogue was being held with some groups and said that 'militarisation process' was on the rise.

'' We want to end the armed conflicts at the earliest so that suffering of our people could be mitigated,'',they said and urged the people to unitedly fight for their rights.
